Episcopal Diocese of Puerto Rico

Our Connection to the Worldwide Anglican Communion

Our Identity

We are a mission of the Episcopal Church of Puerto Rico. The Episcopal Church is part of the Christian Church and as such has had a continuous, uninterrupted existence since Christ founded His Church.

Worldwide Anglican Communion

It is part of the Worldwide Anglican Communion, which is one of the great branches of the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. The Anglican Communion currently has more than 80 million members.

Reformed Heritage

It is also a reformed Church. This is because, during the 16th century, when the Church in England separated from the authority of the Bishop of Rome, several reforms were made, such as:

  • Returning to Holy Scripture as the rule of faith
  • Conducting worship services in the vernacular
  • Abolishing mandatory celibacy
